Our Doctors
Dr. Robert F. Morrison
Clinical Director
Dr. Robert F. Morrison is the owner and founder of Morrison Dental Group, serving families since 1992. After completing his service with the U.S. Navy, he opened the practice with a mission to provide genuine and compassionate care for the families of the Hampton Roads region. Over the years, the practice has grown to incorporate advanced dental technologies while continuing to provide patient-focused care for individuals and families.
Dr. Morrison earned his Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Southern Illinois University in 1979, followed by his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree in 1982 from Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine. He completed a post-doctoral residency in Comprehensive Dentistry and went on to serve as a dental officer ashore and afloat from 1982–1991, including as department head aboard the U.S.S. Guam and head of the Pediatric Department at Norfolk Naval Station.
Dr. Morrison is married to Alison, who serves as Morrison Dental Group’s CFO. They have two sons: Frank, a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Coast Guard, and Alex, who is the group’s Chief Compliance Officer. In his spare time, Dr. Morrison enjoys fishing on the Chesapeake Bay, kayaking, and restoring British MG cars. He is also a member of the ADA, American Academy of Sleep Medicine, Virginia Dental Association, Peninsula Dental Society, and the International College of Dentistry.
Dr. Matthew Sorey
Dr. Matthew Sorey’s journey into dentistry began with a transformative experience shadowing his dentist during college. Graduating from Virginia Commonwealth University for his undergraduate studies, Dr. Sorey pursued his dental education at the University of Maryland.
Following his academic pursuits, he dedicated time to the U.S. Navy, and was stationed on an aircraft carrier for four years, eventually undertaking a comprehensive Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency in Portsmouth, Virginia.
Supported by his wife, Christy, who is a nurse practitioner, Dr. Sorey cherishes family moments with their young daughter, Reese. Beyond dentistry, he’s a passionate Dallas Cowboys fan and relishes outdoor adventures and tinkering with cars. Renowned for his outgoing and approachable demeanor, Dr. Sorey’s paramount goal is ensuring patient satisfaction, making each visit a positive experience.
Dr. Kyle Johnson
Dr. Kyle Johnson is excited to join our team and will be serving patients at our East Beach and Portsmouth locations. Originally from South Jersey, Dr. Johnson’s journey to dentistry has been shaped by a passion for helping others and a commitment to delivering exceptional care.
Dr. Johnson graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry in 2023 and went on to complete a residency at the Naval Medical Hospital in Portsmouth, where he gained invaluable experience in rotations including anesthesia and emergency care. A proud veteran, Dr. Johnson spent five years in the Marines, serving in places like Northern California and Hawaii. During this time, he attended the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California, becoming proficient in Chinese–a skill he has used to connect with diverse patients.
Dr. Johnson’s professional interests include oral surgery, extractions, and endodontics, and he takes pride in achieving immediate, life-changing results for his patients. Known for his down-to-earth personality and relatable approach, he goes above and beyond to ensure every patient feels comfortable and cared for.
Beyond the office, Dr. Johnson is actively involved in giving back to the community. He has volunteered with Missions of Mercy in Suffolk and led youth ministry groups at his church. He’s looking forward to participating in future events like Smiles for Heroes.
In his free time, Dr. Johnson enjoys staying active with the North End Run Club, working out, and reading novels by Cormac McCarthy. A self-proclaimed dog lover, he doesn’t currently have any pets but appreciates spending time with animals.
Dr. Johnson now calls Virginia Beach home and looks forward to building strong connections with his patients and community. Whether it’s through his dedication to his craft, his approachable bedside manner, or his passion for making a difference, Dr. Johnson is here to make every smile shine.
Dr. Edgar Serra
Dr. Edgar Serra grew up in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, where his passion for helping others first took root. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Universidad Interamericana in Puerto Rico and later continued his dental studies at Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE) in the Dominican Republic.
Following dental school, Dr. Serra completed his General Practice Residency at Louisiana State University, where he gained extensive experience in comprehensive patient care.
Dr. Serra is dedicated to advancing his skills and providing high-quality care. He has participated in mission trips to the Dominican Republic and Peru and has also volunteered his time providing free dental care in New Orleans.
He is especially passionate about endodontics, surgery, and periodontics, and he finds the greatest joy in helping patients restore their confidence through healthier smiles. He describes himself as humble, persevering, and motivated—qualities that shine through in both his work and his relationships with patients.
Outside of dentistry, Dr. Serra enjoys golfing, camping, and both freshwater and saltwater fishing. A lifelong athlete, he played college baseball on scholarship and even won national golf title at the age of 12 back in Puerto Rico. He and his wife live in Chesapeake with their two children, a teenage daughter and son.

Office Manager
Born and raised in Suffolk, VA, Tessa is proud to still call this community home. She has spent the last 15 years working in dentistry, one of the few places where you can completely change how someone feels in a single visit. A confident smile can impact the way someone walks into a room, speaks in a meeting, or laughs in a photo — and being part of that transformation never gets old. Tessa loves creating an environment where patients feel welcomed, heard, and maybe even forget they’re at the dentist for a minute. Outside of work, she is a busy (and proud) mom to three amazing young men who keep life loud, active, and full of laughter. If she’s not at practices or sporting events, you’ll probably find her by the pool, out on the boat with friends, or planning her next adventure. At home, Tessa has a 3-year-old German Shepherd, Kaia, who runs the show and keeps everyone on their toes. When she has a quiet moment, Tessa loves diving into a good book — though with three boys, “quiet” is always relative!
Tessa believes in working hard, leading with heart, laughing often, and making every space she’s in feel welcoming — and that’s exactly what she strives to bring to Portsmouth every day.
