Dr. Paul Kim
Dr. Paul Kim was born in South Korea and moved to the United States in 2004 where his family settled down in Northern Virginia.
He attended UVA for his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry. He then continued on to attend VCU’s School of Dentistry where he earned his DDS. Dr. Kim completed a residency at the VA Hospital in Birmingham, AL. He is Invisalign certified, volunteered on various dental service trips in college, and looks forward to volunteering for Smiles for Heroes.
Dr. Kim was first drawn to dentistry as a child in Korea. Contrary to most people’s experiences, he had a relatively traumatizing experience in the dental chair, which motivated him to be a dentist. He wanted to change people’s view of dentistry and treat his patients with the utmost care, careful to ensure that all patients have a pleasant experience with him. While he still doesn’t enjoy being on the receiving end of dental care, Dr. Kim enjoys being able to calm an anxious patient and successfully treat them. He wants to change patient’s minds that have previously had a bad dental experience. He finds great joy seeing patients leave with a smile and return to see him again.
Dr. Kim describes himself as introverted, but social. He recharges best when he is alone. In his spare time, he enjoys board games, video games, escape rooms and movies. A fun fact about Dr. Kim is that in Korean, his given name – Dado – means “the art of drinking tea.”
Dr. Ann Wheelock
Dr. Ann Wheelock was born and raised in the Roanoke Valley of Virginia. Her father was an orthodontist and she has fond memories spending time at his practice after school growing up.
She attended Roanoke College for her undergraduate degree in Biology, then went on to VCU’s School of Dentistry where she fell in love with Richmond and chose to make it her new home. Dr. Wheelock is certified in Invisalign and is excited for opportunities to volunteer in the Mechanicsville/Atlee area.
Dr. Wheelock was first drawn to dentistry while growing up in her dad’s dental office. She loved seeing him and his team work together to create a fun atmosphere for their patients. She strives to create a similar atmosphere where patients feel at ease and confident in the care they are receiving. Her goal is to change the patient’s perception of dental care and give them confidence in their smile. In her words, “There is nothing more rewarding than meeting a new, anxious patient who has had poor dental experiences in the past and having them leave our office with a smile on their face.”
Dr. Wheelock has a French bulldog named Roux and describes herself as an introverted extrovert. She loves spending time with friends and family but also enjoys time alone to read and unwind. She is an avid tennis player and loves to play cards and board games. She also loves podcasts and thriller novels. She enjoys being in the kitchen and has become a very good baker! She frequently tests out new recipes for coworkers to try!
Dr. Rafael Siqueira
Dr. Rafael Siqueira is originally from Recife, a beautiful town on the coast of Brazil. He attended the University of Pernambuco in Brazil and graduated from dental school in 2010.
He then went on to complete a Masters of Implantology which is similar to a US residency program. After completing that, he joined a PhD program at the Federal University of Pernambuco which sent him to the University of Michigan to do research for his master’s thesis. Once he completed his PhD, he headed back to Michigan School of Dentistry for a 3-year residency in Periodontics. During his time in school and residency, he was able to publish over 30 scientific articles in international peer reviewed journals and write five book chapters. This resulted in a few awards over the years.
Dr. Siqueira’s interest in dentistry started to develop very early in his life by watching his parents who are both dentists. He observed his father teaching students and treating both students and patients with compassionate care. He witnessed a few instances where patients were moved to tears by the results of his father’s care and students whose lives were so strongly impacted by the mentorship his father provided on their path to become a Periodontist or Implantologist. Dr. Siqueira soon realized he wanted to have that same positive impact by being a dentist, educator and researcher.
Dr. Siqueira describes himself as not only family-oriented and very sociable, but also easy-going and calm. He loves being with friends, having a good time and sharing great food. He is typically very optimistic. He is married to Renata, a lawyer, who just recently gave birth to their first child, Thomas. They do not currently have any pets but hope to add a dog to their family in the near future. Dr. Siqueira is a big sports fan, food lover and loves to travel. His hobbies include playing tennis, watching sports, exploring new restaurants, travelling and meeting new people, and learning new languages. A fun fact about Dr. Siqueira is that he speaks his native language, Portuguese, as well as English, Italian, and can communicate quite well in Spanish. He is currently taking a Spanish course to improve his fluency.
Alex Morrison is from Williamsburg, VA. He helps with overseeing the Midlothian, Mechanicsville and Chincoteague offices, monitoring supplies and compliance for all offices as well.
