Hoffler Creek Wildlife Preserve’s history and objectives

In order to preserve the area’s ecological diversity and natural beauty, the Hoffler Creek Wildlife Preserve was founded in 2006. Originally used for farming and logging, the land was transformed into a landfill for construction waste and other trash during the 20th century. The preserve was established as a result of the 1990s-era efforts of concerned citizens to preserve and restore the land.

The Hoffler Creek Wildlife Foundation, a nonprofit organization devoted to the conservation of natural resources and the education of the general public about the value of preserving the environment, is currently in charge of managing the preserve. In order to involve the community in the preservation and restoration of the preserve, the foundation runs a number of programs and events, such as led hikes, tours for birdwatching, and educational initiatives for community organizations and schools.
