Dr. David Kelly
Dr. David Kelly was born and raised in Bristol, VA.
Being the son of a dentist, he grew up in the office watching his father work. When he was old enough, he would answer phones, work in sterilization, and began developing a desire to provide the same care his father was providing. This led Dr. Kelly to attend Emory and Henry College for his undergraduate degree and then head to dental school at VCU’s School of Dentistry. He continued working with his father at his office before developing a practice of his own. Dr. Kelly has practiced in various cities around Virginia and has volunteered with Healing Hands and Cross Roads Medical ministries providing free dental services to the needy. He is also Invisalign and Six Month Smiles certified. He is very experienced with dental implants as well.
Dr. Kelly believes the best part of being a dentist is seeing a person’s life change for the better by simply improving their smile. Getting someone out of pain and on the road to recovery is also very rewarding, but helping a patient get on board with their own daily hygiene through compassionate care is a goal of his.
Dr. Kelly has two adult sons and in his spare time, he enjoys live music and sporting events. Some of his most recent ticket stubs were to Dave Matthews Band, Chicago, Doobie Brothers, Earth, Wind, and Fire, as well as UVA vs. Tech Football games, the Orange Bowl, and Masters Golf Tournaments. If time permitted, Dr. Kelly would play more golf. He is also a huge fan of Star Wars.
Dr. Rafael Siqueira
Dr. Rafael Siqueira is originally from Recife, a beautiful town on the coast of Brazil. He attended the University of Pernambuco in Brazil and graduated from dental school in 2010.
He then went on to complete a Masters of Implantology which is similar to a US residency program. After completing that, he joined a PhD program at the Federal University of Pernambuco which sent him to the University of Michigan to do research for his master’s thesis. Once he completed his PhD, he headed back to Michigan School of Dentistry for a 3-year residency in Periodontics. During his time in school and residency, he was able to publish over 30 scientific articles in international peer reviewed journals and write five book chapters. This resulted in a few awards over the years.
Dr. Siqueira’s interest in dentistry started to develop very early in his life by watching his parents who are both dentists. He observed his father teaching students and treating both students and patients with compassionate care. He witnessed a few instances where patients were moved to tears by the results of his father’s care and students whose lives were so strongly impacted by the mentorship his father provided on their path to become a Periodontist or Implantologist. Dr. Siqueira soon realized he wanted to have that same positive impact by being a dentist, educator and researcher.
Dr. Siqueira describes himself as not only family-oriented and very sociable, but also easy-going and calm. He loves being with friends, having a good time and sharing great food. He is typically very optimistic. He is married to Renata, a lawyer, who just recently gave birth to their first child, Thomas. They do not currently have any pets but hope to add a dog to their family in the near future. Dr. Siqueira is a big sports fan, food lover and loves to travel. His hobbies include playing tennis, watching sports, exploring new restaurants, travelling and meeting new people, and learning new languages. A fun fact about Dr. Siqueira is that he speaks his native language, Portuguese, as well as English, Italian, and can communicate quite well in Spanish. He is currently taking a Spanish course to improve his fluency.
Dr. Jerren Alcalde
Dr. Jerren Alcalde is originally from California but has moved countless times in his life. He found himself joining the Army and moving to New York where he attended the University of Buffalo for undergrad as well as Dental School. He completed a partial residency while still in the Army before his wife (also a dentist) got her residency in Virginia which brought them here to the Midlothian area.
Dr. Alcalde was first drawn to dentistry because he was very interested in the medical field but wasn’t sure what he wanted to focus on. He got the opportunity to shadow a dentist and knew that it was the right field for him! He loves being able to take scared patients and show them that the dental office doesn’t need to be a scary place.
Dr. Alcalde is married to Whitney and they have four dogs- Baxter, Mogley, Hanzo, and Ruckus. He describes himself as goofy, fun, and chatty. Dr. Alcalde enjoys smoking meats, hosting barbecues, and hanging out with family. He also recently purchased a new e-bike and is excited to start mountain biking. He is also an author! He recently published a young adult fantasy novel called “The Source of Death” (you can find it on Amazon). A fun fact about Dr. Alcalde is that he used to be a high stakes professional poker player and he is an army combat veteran.

Dr. Kristina Chang was born in Miami, FL but was raised in Springfield, VA and then Annapolis, MD. She attended VCU for her undergraduate degree followed by VCU’s School of Dentistry.
She is a member of the AACD and the AGD and she is Invisalign Certified. Dr. Chang volunteered with Mission of Mercy previously in dental school and hopes to continue working with them in the future. She is also passionate about working with school-age children and educating them on the importance of their dental health.
Dr. Chang has always enjoyed working with her hands and knew she wanted to help people as a doctor. When she was in high school, she shadowed multiple types of doctors, but it was the dentist who seemed to have the most fun and really got to know their patients. She is driven to provide excellent dentistry for everyone, regardless of who they are, and to educate her patients, practice ethically, and do the right thing through her faith. Dr. Chang wants to solve patient discomfort and try to produce the most beautiful dentistry based on what her patients want and need. She enjoys giving patients their confidence back and allowing them to live pain-free. She also loves opportunities to learn about new technology that will make her procedures easier and faster.
Dr. Chang lives with her fiancé, John, who is a project manager in IT security. They have an African Grey parrot named TJ who has her morning and afternoon scream fests that they enjoy. She also knows how to pick up new phrases from people. Dr. Chang describes herself as caring and nurturing. She is a good listener and has a genuine interest in hearing about her patients’ lives and stories. She is also very motivated to be her best self and give as much to the world as she can. In her spare time, Dr. Chang rides motorcycles with her fiancé, weight lifts, cooks, plays board games, and explores new distilleries and breweries around Richmond. She also loves visiting theme parks and new cities. A fun fact about Dr. Chang is that she has been playing Dance Dance Revolution for 20 years and uses it as her primary source of cardio at home.
